Next time I want to be at the front of the check out line!

On Saturday 28th of May, my mum and I went shopping at Pak'n'Save to buy what we needed for the weekend. My mum and I got dressed up and we left our house at 8 o'clock in the morning. We said, "Goodbye!" to my siblings and my dad.
While we were driving to Sylvia park, I made a list of food that we needed for the weekend. On the list I wrote: 2 bags of croissants, 3 coffee packs, coconut cream, medium rice bag, sea salt chips and milo.
When we arrived at Sylvia park, my mum and I walked to the bank to withdraw $250 dollars out of her bank to buy our food. After that, we walked to Pak' n save. Within a minute, I got a trolley, but the one that I wanted was stuck to the one in front of it, so my mum helped me to pull it apart.
At first, my mum and I tried to search for our food that we wanted, but we could not find it, so we looked at the labels on the signs. Finally we found our items of food, and I ticked them off on the right side of the list. Then we walked over to the check out and waited for our turn.
We waited for the line to move and it took 30 minutes for my mum and I to get to the front. We scanned our items of food and my mum told me to get a big box. I got a big box with a sign that says cookie time. The lady placed our items into the box and we left our trolley back to the trolley area.
We got into our little, black car and drove home to prepare our breakfast. It was a lot of fun shopping with my mum.
My favourite part of the day was when my mum and I looked for all the food because I like searching

for items and objects.

Learning intention: We are learning to write a recount.
Success criteria: I know I can do this when I follow the structure of a recount starting with the introduction, followed by the events, then the conclusion about my mum and I going shopping for the weekend.

I need a toothpick for my butterfly's antenna!

On Friday 27th of May, Room7 had our art session with Salome and Siliga on a rainy day. First we looked at some photos of insect sculptures as examples. In the pictures, I saw a recycled monkey. I spotted spoons been used for the monkey's ears and also metal forks being used for its feet.

Next Salomi asked Alessandra and I to gather in all the recyclable materials from under the brown and white tables. When I finished gathering the materials, I grabbed a large roll to make the body of my recycled butterfly. Then I used some tin foil and wrapped it around the roll, I went to Salome so that she could glue my tin foil onto the roll. I went to the materials section to get two toothpicks for my butterfly's antenna.

For the wings, I asked Kyle if I could have three pieces of cardboard. Kyle gave me some cardboard and I used a pair of scissors to cut out the four wings. After that, I went to Salome to stick my wings onto my butterfly. When the wings were stuck onto the roll, I asked my teacher for a red marker, so that I could add details to the butterfly's wings and body.

When I finished adding in the details, we all had to pack up the room because it was very messy. Lastly we said thank you to Salomi and Siliga for helping us with our sculptures and ended our day with Karakia.

My favourite part of the day was when Room 7 was cleaning up our classroom because we all helped each other with the tidy up.

Learning intention: We are learning to write a recount.
Success criteria: I know I can do this when I follow the structure of a recount starting with the introduction, followed by the events and then the conclusion to write about Room 7's art session.

Wow, trying to dodge Lupe is very hard!

On Friday 20th of May, Room 7 went to the top court to have our 3rd Netball session with our coach Tina. First we warmed up by jogging to the base line and back a couple of times.

Next Tina taught us how to do the crab move when we are defending our opponents in Netball. We had to move backwards and jog left and right. Next we were told to line up into two lines in pairs. I chose Lupe because we were of the same height.

Lupe was the defender, but I was the dodger. Lupe had to be in front of me with her left shoulder in front of my chest. I had to try and get past Lupe to get to Tina. I ran left and right trying to get away from Lupe, she couldn't catch me so I was able to reach the finish line. For our last activity, Tina taught us a skill from her Netball club. We had to jump to each side three times and back to the front. It was very challenging.

My favourite part was when Lupe tried her best to defend me from getting to Tina because she used a lot of energy to trying to
defend me.

Learning intention: We are learning to write a recount.
Success criteria: I know i can do this when I follow the structure of a recount starting with an introduction, followed by the events and then the conclusion of my class' playing Netball.

Wow, we have collected a lot of leaves!

On Monday 23rd of May, Room 7 made compost in our class with natural materials. Our teacher divided us into four groups. Soane, Xyril, Mana and I were leaders.

My group and I headed outside to get brown leaves. We filled our plastic bag with lots of brown leaves. After that, our teacher called us to go back to the classroom to help the other groups.

When we were all back in class, Soane's group was using safety scissors to cut the yellow banana skins. Xyril's group was tearing up old newspapers and making sure that there weren't any ink or paint on them. When we were finished, we had to tidy up our classroom because there were small pieces of bananas and torn up newspapers on the floor.

After that, we filled our compost container with the bananas and the newspaper. Lastly our teacher gave us a trowel and a garden fork so that we could all take turns to rotate(turn) the layers.

Learning intention: We are learning to write a recount.
Success criteria: I know i can do this when I follow the structure of a recount starting with an introduction, followed by the events and then the conclusion of my class' experience of making compost.

I want to be a dragon warrior!

The Best Movie night!
On Friday 20th of May, my youth group, dad and I went to our church Manukau PIC to watch an interesting and action movie.

First we listened to the reader read her devotion from the bible. Some of the boys were setting up the chairs, food (in case the younger children didn’t bring any food with them), laptop and the movie screen. When all the devotions were finished, we were given five minutes to get our food item. Soon after that, we were called to go into the room for Sunday School.

A leader from our youth group named Dave said, “There are  3 types of action movies which were called Ant man, Jurassic World and Kung Fu Panda 3.” We weren’t allowed to stay up and watch all the movies otherwise we wouldn’t get any sleep that night so we had a vote. Only 1 person voted for Ant Man and 1 person voted for Jurassic World, but the rest of the  youth group voted for Kung Fu panda 3.

There were a lot of main characters in the story; Po(Dragon Warrior and he is a legend), Master Shifu ,Tigress, Mantis, Crane( Bird), Viper (snake) ,Monkey, Oogway (Best Master) and Kai( the most evil being in the world). The movie was about a dragon warrior named Po who had to fight the most evil man in the world named Kai. He has big, green, shiny eyes and he holds 2 great green crystals as his weapons to attack others.

One day Po’s father came back for Po and Po was very happy to see his father. His father came to help Po defeat Kai by teaching him the Glowing hands. Po’s father took Po to the panda village to teach him some basic skills before teaching him the glowing hands. Po did everything that his father told him to do, but he felt that none of the moves were related to learning the glowing hands.

Po found out that his dad was lying about the glowing hands because he didn’t know how to make his hands glow either. Po’s father tried to explain to Po, but Po wouldn’t listen to him. So Po put on his armour and shield to go and defeat Kai himself.

Po was a bit scared but he had to be brave. Kai tried to catch Po but he couldn't so he used his green stones to to block his way by throwing it in the front of him to stop him from escaping. When Kai finally caught Po, Po touched Kai’s finger and said, “Kaching!” Po brought Kai to heaven and when they got there, Po killed Kai using the skills that he had learnt from Master Shifu but mostly from his father.

All the pandas put their paws together and called out words describing Po. An energy formed from their paws and brought
Po back to earth. When the movie ended, my dad and I went back home feeling very exhausted.

At the end of the movie, I felt very happy for Po because he saved everyone. My favourite part of the movie was when Po met his real father because it was very touching.

Learning intention: We are learning to write a recount.
Success criteria: I know I can do this when I follow the structure of a recount by writing an introduction, followed by the events and then a conclusion of my movie night.

Can you dodge your Partner?
On Thursday 13th of May, Room 7 went to the top court to play Netball as part of our kiwi sports programme.
Our coaches' names were Lisa and Tina and they taught us how to doge our defender today. We have to drive forward and dodge by stepping to the side, twist our hips and press our foot down very hard to push off quickly.

Netball is a fun and challenging sport!

On Friday 6th of May Room 7 went to the top court to play netball as part of our kiwisport programme. We met our coaches named Tina and Mark. First we had to say our name, age and what we wanted to be when we grow up. I said that I wanted to be an athlete.

For our warm up we did jogging. We had to jog to the end of the court. Soane and Vaughn got there first and I came last place because they were running and I was just jogging. Then we have to jog back to the start line. After that we were in 2 lines in a group. I was in the second line with 9 classmates from Room 7. Then we had to partner up with a buddy.  I was with Rhonda. We had to find a space because we were to fold our arms and put one leg up, try to balance and try knock our partner over. If our partner is knocked over,  he/she had to land on both legs.

Then Tina taught us how to chest pass. First I had to get a ball, make a letter w with my hands to show that I’m ready to throw it straight to my partner.  The ball is placed on my hands by my chest then I pushed my foot down then passed the ball to my partner. After that we had to get into a team of three people. I was with Matej and Christian. Christian had to pass the ball to Matej ,then Matej had to pass the ball back to Christian and then Christian  passed the ball to me. When I passed the ball back to Christian, Mark said that I was very good at it.

Finally, it was over so  we did a warm down. We had to stretch our arms, legs and thighs. Lastly Christian came up with a class name and it was called Rock Solid. Tina said we would have to make up a new class name that we would all agree on. Then we gave a shout saying, “ Rock Solid Bang Bang!”. Then we said thank you and trotted off to class.

My favourite part was when we had learnt how to chest pass because Room 7 used all our might to pass the ball from a distance to our partners.
